Is Your Comfort Zone Really Comfortable For You?

“Whether you are trying something new or doing the exact same thing, it’s all risky.”- Rob Bell

What are you denying yourself? What are you tolerating? What are you pretending to be? What are you resisting?

Are you resisting your true life? Are you pretending to be who you are not? Is your comfort zone really comfortable for you? Are you pursuing your dreams? Is fear stopping you from enjoying your life?

Life is not about resisting things; it is about exploring new opportunities. Why is that? Because life is about growth. As the old saying goes, “If you are not growing, you are dying.” Simple. You don’t need a degree to understand that.

“Do not resist events that move you out of your comfort zone, especially when your comfort zone was not all that comfortable.”- Irene C. Kassorla

What are you afraid of? Whatever it is that is scaring you to death, it is time to say good bye to it. It is time to bring out the best within you. It is time to stop making excuses. It is time to start doing. It is time to stop talking. Now is the time. Not later, not tomorrow, not next week, not next month, not next year, but now. Now!

Whatever comes your way, don’t resist it, explore it. That is where your growth is going to come from. There is no growth in sameness. You can’t grow if you continue to do the same thing. Yes, you are enjoying it, everyone around you is praising you, you are happy doing it, but is it changing you? If what you are doing is not growing you, if it is not adding value to your life, if it is not changing your mind, if it is not making you uncomfortable, if you are not learning new things, if it is easy, if you are not questioning yourself enough, change it. Because the path of least resistance adds nothing to your life. Instead, it takes away your time.

Don’t forget that we are not going to be here forever. Time is priceless. Just because something makes you comfortable doesn’t make it better for you. If you want to grow, you must face the things that really scares you. You must get out of your comfort zone. You must do new things. You must challenge yourself. You must always, always question what you are doing? Always question your assumptions. Don’t just go with the flow, question the flow. If you can’t question the flow, leave the flow alone.

You are not here to go with the flow; you are here to question the flow. To do that, to change yourself, to take the first step, to change your thoughts, do it slowly. Do not rush yourself into changing something. Because real change doesn’t happen overnight. So whatever you want to do, start slowly. Be really honest with yourself. Take the risks. Don’t resist life, live it. Don’t resist growth, experience it. Don’t resist events, be part of them. Don’t silent yourself, express yourself. Don’t do what you cannot do, do what you can do. Don’t pretend to be who you are not, pretend to be the real you.

Whether you are scared of something or not, do it anyway. Because life is about doing scary things anyway. So what are you scared of? Whatever it is that is torturing you, do it anyway.

How To Stop Fear From Controlling You

Tell yourself, “I can do this.” That is how you control fear. You control it by taking action to change things in your life. Fear does not respect talk. Fear respects action. Fear and action cannot coexist. When you take action, fear disappears. According to Alvah Bessie, “Fear is real and there is nothing you can do about it except to keep functioning, keep your hands and legs and body moving, your mind focused on the task at hand.” To get things done, don’t focus on fear. It is there, but do not let it put you in your comfort zone. Do not accept it. Because you are better than your comfort zone. You are here to move, to work, to live, not to get stuck in a rut. Baruch Spinoza said, “Fear cannot be without hope nor hope without fear.” Be hopeful that things will get better. Yes, no one can predict the future. But if you work really hard right now, if you concentrate on the task at hand, you can create your own future. You can do it. Don’t make things hard for yourself. Simplify your life. Make things easy, not difficult. Do what you haven’t done before. Try different things. Do not worry about failure, worry about not doing anything to change your situation. Take on new projects. Meet new people. Stretch your brain. Create thinking time for yourself. Hang out with people who are fearless. When you are always with confident people, your level of confidence will increase. Be around people who are smarter than you are. Above all, “always do what you are afraid to do.”
