You Can Do Nothing To Change The Past

“You can do nothing to change the past, and the future will never come exactly as you plan or hope for.”– Dan Millmann

Are you trying to change your past? Are you trying to change what you cannot change? Change is scary. Change is what we need to grow. Don’t try to change what you cannot change. Your past is gone. Don’t worry about it. The only thing you can do with your past is to learn from it. Yes, learn from it.

You can’t recover your past, but you can discover your future. But you can’t discover your future if you keep living in the past. You can’t discover your future if you continue to waste your time trying to change what you cannot change. The best thing to do for yourself is to focus on what is happening in the moment. Don’t live in the past. Live in the present. According to Agatha Christie, “One doesn’t recognize the really important moments in one’s life until it’s too late.” Live your life in the moment, but don’t ignore the future. Now matters. The future matters, too.

“You can’t recover your past, but you can discover your future.”

Growth Vs. Safety

“You will either step forward into growth, or you will step backward into safety.”- Abraham Maslow

Life is about growth. Everything in life is growing. If you are not growing, what are you doing? Check what you are doing on a daily basis. Because how you live your day is exactly how you are living your life. If you don’t like the results, change what you do everyday. If you like it, continue doing it.

Since growth is so important to us, why do so many of us prefer safety over growth?

That has everything to do with who we are as human beings. People don’t like to change what they are comfortable with. You don’t even like to leave your bed in the morning, let alone doing something that you haven’t done before. We love to do what we are comfortable with. But the problem is, the more we do that, the more we will remain where we are. So to move forward, you must pursue growth, not safety. Because:

Growth is uncomfortable. Safety is comfortable.

Growth involves stretching yourself. Safety involves maintaining what you already know.

Growth is scary. Safety is status quo.

Growth is movement. Safety is the opposite.

Growth is change. Safety is the opposite.

Growth is living. Safety is dying.

Growth is forward. Safety is backward.

If you want to achieve your dreams, growth is the way.
