Self-care is not a crime. You do not have to apologize for taking care of yourself, for taking care of your life. You do not have to. All you need to do is to take more care of yourself. Dot it for you. Do it for your future self.
The question is, ‘Do you have the spine to take care of yourself? Do you have the courage to do what is good for you? Do you have the courage to be you, no matter where you are? Do you have the courage to think your own thoughts, negative or positive? Do you feel comfortable when you are with yourself, when you are alone?
‘Self-care is saying ‘yes’ to yourself, to your life, not matter what life throws at you.’
If you are not taking care of yourself, maybe you are doing the opposite. You know what that is, right?
Self-care is not hard to do. Self-care is looking after your mind, your soul, and your body. It means being there for yourself. It means being there for your dreams, for your health, for what is important to you.
Self-care is not about isolation. Self-care is about connecting with other people. Self-care is about your mind, your soul, and your body, not about isolation. Isolation cannot heal a broken heart.
Self-care is when you have the courage to look at yourself in the mirror, to reflect on what you are doing, why you are doing it, what is not working, why you are where you are, who is in charge of your life, without beating yourself to the ground.
Self-care is having the courage to practice love, to treat people as they want to be treated, to live your life in your own way, to do what is good for you, to choose love over hate, to choose positive thoughts over negative ones, to choose positive friends over negative ones, to choose you, to choose self-love over self-pity, to choose meaningful work over meaningless work, to choose life over death, to choose growth over stagnation, to choose questions over answers.
Choose self-care over self-pity. Take care of yourself. If you are not doing it, if you are afraid of what other people are going to say about you, you are not taking care of yourself. You are just feeding other people’s opinions. You are not taking care of yourself. To take care of yourself, you must be there for yourself.
