Where do we start? You don’t need permission to start. You just need you to start living your life. You need your why to start living your life.
Before you start, ask yourself, ‘What is it that I really care about? Why am I here? How can I contribute to humanity? Why am I not doing what I love to do? What is holding me back?’
Start with where you are, your reality. You have got to face your reality. Do not run away from your reality. Do not run away from what you are supposed to be doing right now.
You can plan all you like. If you don’t have the courage to face your reality, you won’t be able to create what you want to create for yourself.
Do not let that discourage you. You can do whatever you want to do. And you have got to be willing to do the work.
According to John Stepper, ‘Destiny isn’t something that awaits you. It’s something you create.’ That is right. When it comes to your success, no one is going to do it for you. You have got to put your courage together, follow your why, and get to work.
You can create your own life if you don’t limit yourself. Even if it hasn’t been easy for you, even if you have been struggling to get things done, don’t give up. If you do not give up, it is going to be alright. Because, according to John Stepper, ‘You have a lot more to offer than you might think, including all the many facts about you.’
You can create your own world, a better one, if you don’t doubt yourself. Do not let doubt put your dreams to sleep. Don’t listen to those who are waiting for things to happen to them. Don’t do that. Don’t doubt yourself. Because ‘self-doubt can make you feel that the safe thing to do is nothing…’ Do not go there. Because success comes from doing something. Success comes from committing yourself to something bigger than you. Success is not going to come from doing nothing. If you do nothing, you will get nothing. And your life will never change.
You can create your own life if you believe in your why, your purpose. Yes, your purpose will not stay the same. It will change as you change. Don’t doubt it, believe in it. Do what you love, what makes you happy. Don’t just do it because it is popular. Do something that makes sense to you, that keeps you going, ‘even if someone doesn’t love what you share, they will appreciate your thoughtfulness and attention if you share it in a personal, authentic way.‘
You can create a better world for yourself when you are not afraid to ask the right questions. For example, ‘Why am I doing this?‘ If you can’t honestly answer it, then don’t do it. It is not for you. Go try something else. Go experiment with new ideas. Don’t just stop there. You have a lot more to explore. Because life is about exploration, not about stagnation.
You can create a better world for yourself when you focus on what truly matters to you, when you have the discipline to focus on being productive, not on being busy. Just because you are busy, you are running around, that doesn’t mean you are getting things done. It means you are just wasting your time. According to John, ‘One of the biggest barrier to developing yourself and your career is being busy.’ Success doesn’t come from being busy. Success comes from being productive. When you are productive, you are doing the right thing, at the right time, with the right people. When you are busy, you are doing things that make you comfortable, happy, but are not getting you closer to where you want to be.
You can create your own world, you can make a diference in your life, you can help other people get what they want when you surround yourself with the right people. When you are around the right people, you just feel good about your life. When you are around the wrong people, before you know it, you will start to think like them. You can’t grow.
Instead of hanging around people who can’t help you achieve your goals, ask yourself, ‘Who can help me with my goals?’
You can create your own life when your why is clear, when you are not trying to be like other people. Ask yourself, ‘What am I trying to accomplish?‘ Again, if you don’t know why you are doing something, progress is not going to be easy. If you want to do something that can show the world who you really are, then go for what you love, not what you don’t like. Why is that? Because no one grows by doing what they don’t like to do. But growth is possible when you follow what you love to do.
You can create a new life for yourself when you ‘focus on getting better instead of being good.’ The question is, ‘Do you have the courage to try new things every day?’ Because we get better when we explore things that we haven’t done before, when we say yes to newness, when we say yes to creativity, when we say yes to light. If you want your plants to grow, then you must say yes to light.
Remember, ‘where there is light, there is life.’
You can create a better world for yourself when you embrace life, when you know that growth takes time. ‘Yet’ is not permanent. Just because you are struggling to get better right now, it doesn’t mean you are not going to get better at it. Instead of thinking, ‘I’m just not good at this,” say, ‘you’re just not good at it yet.’
You can create a better life for yourself when you are not in the game for yourself, when you help to make other people better. Remember, we are alive to contribute our own unique gifts to the world. Because ‘contributions are like pebbles in a pond, rippling out and bringing you into contact with more people and possibilities.’ Why is that? Because when you help other people get better at what they do, they will help you get better at what you do.
Remember, contribution is about others, not about you. It is about what you can do for others, never about what you can get from others.
If that is you, you are my friend!
