Why I Do Not Follow The Majority

The majority is not for me. I do not follow the majority. If something is important to me, I do it my way.

I do not follow the majority because I do not believe in where they are going. I do not believe in why they are going there. I do not know what they are looking for.

Just because everybody is doing something does not make it right. Just because many people are talking about something does not make it right.

If you want to know something, do not depend on anybody. Because you have what it takes to figure it out.

And you can figure it. For me, I do not depend on anybody. I learn from other people, but I do not depend on them. I am not scared, but I do not want to be disappointed.

If you depend on people, you will never know how to walk. You will never know how to work for yourself. And you will never be able to stand on your own. Why is that? Because your legs are weak.

If you want to know who you are, who you really are, do not follow the majority. Follow your own way.

Suffering Can Make Us More Sensitive And Gentle

‘While at times suffering can serve to toughen us,

to strengthen us,

at other times it can have value by functioning in the opposite manner-

to soften us,

to make us more sensitve and gentle.

The vulnerability we experience in the midst of suffering

can open us deepen our connection with others.’

– Dalai Lama & Howard C. Cuttter, A Handbook for Living The Art of Connection
