How To Turn Negative Messages Around

It starts with your own mindset. If you believe you can do great things, you can do them. Do not doubt yourself. Because self-doubt is the beginning of failure.

In his book Making Hope Happen: Create the Future You Want for Yourself and Others, Shane J. Lopez writes, ‘… mindset influences every aspect of your life, from work to sports, from relationships to parenting. If you believe you can change and develop, you know you can move beyond your present limitations.’

To ‘move beyond your present limitations’, you must change your thoughts.

You can do great things. Do not doubt yourself. Negative messages are not good for you. They are not good for your life, for your health, and for your happiness.

Here is why. According to Dr. Shane J. Lopez, ‘Negative messages are no more ‘realistic’ than your highest goals, and they rob you of agency.’

‘Negative messages deplete you, sap your agency, and keep you stuck. Disputing these messages will help you reclaim your motivation for the goals that matter to you most.’

If you want to achieve greatness, you must first embrace yourself. You must stop telling yourself negative things. If you do not, remember, ‘negative messages … keep you stuck.’ The question is, ‘Do you want to be stuck?’

Emotions aren’t the problem. Our thoughts are.’- Don Miguel Ruiz

Thoughts are powerful. Use the power of your thoughts to create a better world for yourself.

What you focus on grows. If you focus on negative thoughts, then do not expect your thoughts to produce any positive results, or to make you happy.

Yes, you can’t stop negative things from happening. But you can control yourself. You can control how you react to them. You can control your thoughts.

‘Change your thoughts, your feelings will change.’

If you can control your thoughts, then you can control yourself. You can control your emotions. And you can control your life.

According to Don Miguel Ruiz, ‘our emotions aren’t the problem. Our thoughts are.’ If you can put your thoughts under control, then your emotions will follow suit.
