As A Leader, This Is Your First Job

‘If people do not know what you want them to do, then they can hardly be expected to do it well.’- Ian Durston

No one is good at everything. If you want your people to give you what you want, you must first tell them what you want from them.

If you are not clear, if they don’t know what you want from them, then don’t expect them to perform well.

As a leader, your first job is to know what your people are good at. If you don’t know what your people can do, if you do not know what your people can’t do, then do not expect them to do well at what they are doing.

To succeed in life, to make a difference in your life, in the lives of those around you, you must know what you can do. If you don’t know what you are good at, you won’t be able to help others grow.

When To Try Something Different

If you are in a race that is not taking you anywhere, if you are doing something that is not working, if you are in a dead-end job, do you know why you are where you are?

Do you know why you are not going forward? Do you know why things are not working?

Is what you are doing what you really want? Why this question?

If you are doing something that is not for you, something that is different from what you really want, you are not going to be able to do your best.

If you can’t do your best, you are more likely to fail. And you are less likely to succeed.

To win in your life, if you are doing something that is not working, don’t waste your time.

Remember, you are not going to be here forever. Your time on this earth is limited.

Stop wasting your time. Success is not about wasting your time. Success is about knowing when to say no to something that is not working.

Success is when you, according to Ian Durston, ‘understand when it is the right time to try something different.’

If what you are doing is not working, try something different.
