“Learning is life. Life is learning. If you are not living, you are not learning enough. If you are not growing, you are not learning enough”

Xun Zi, Chinese Confucian philosopher

Here are 4 important learning lessons from Xun Zi

Think, Think, Think.

“The learning of the gentleman enters through his ears, fastens to his heart, spreads through his four limbs, and manifests itself in his actions. … The learning of the petty person enters through his ears and passes out his mouth. From mouth to ears is only four inches- how could it be enough to improve a whole body larger than that.”- Xun Zi

Everything is connected

“In order to properly understand the big picture, everyone should fear becoming mentally clouded and obsessed with one small section of truth.”- Xun Zi

Always examine yourself on the inside

“It is simply that when one examines oneself on the inside, external goods carry little weight.”- Xun Zi

No matter where you are, no matter what you are going through right now in your life, always do the right thing.

“If an action … involves little profit but much righteousness, do it.”- Xun Zi

Are You Learning Enough?

Are you learning enough? If not, why? Because you are here to learn, not to consume. If you want to grow yourself, if you want to get the promotion that you have been waiting for, if you want to explore the world around you, learning is the way.

“He, therefore, who fixes a limit of any kind to his intellectual attainments dwarfs himself, and cramps the growth of that mind given to us by the Creator, and capable of indefinite expansion.”- William H. Crogman

Learning means growing. If you want to grow, learn. You can learn anything you set your mind to. You can use learning to challenge yourself. You can use learning to get out of your head. If you don’t know where to start, you can start with yourself. Learn about your life. Learn about your goals. Question yourself. Don’t just go with the flow. Learning is not going with the flow; it is questioning the flow.
